New Updates: Google Web Chat gets a dark mode, and Google Calendar gets a work location feature

Google Chat and its desktop client gets Dark Mode compatibility over a year after its Android and iOS applications. Google Chat functionality in Dark Mode is also being implemented for Progressive Web App (PWA).

Google Calendar also gives users the opportunity to add their workplace. Users may add a weekly working place routine to their calendar and even alter their location if plans change.

If plans change. Offers are made accessible between “Office,” “Home,” “Unspecified,” or “Somewhere else.”

In its Web and Desktop versions, the technology giant has announced the launch of Dark Mode for Google Chat and a PWA blog post.

Google states that the admin can’t manage this function. You can find it by choosing Settings > Theme Settings and then Dark Mode.

The Google Chat PWA and the web version of the application are subject to the same approach.

Dark mode gradually rolls out, so that people may not see it at once. The completion of the roll-out might take up to 15 days.

All Google Workspace clients, G Suite Basic and Business Customers will receive the new functionality.

As noted, Google can also allow users to directly add their workplace to the Calendar. Users can add and update their place of employment for the week if plans change.

The function starts from August 30, but administrators already have the authority to decide how this functionality is utilized in their organization.

Google claims it’s default to be enabled, but may be deactivated on the domain or OU. If the admin wishes to deactivate this function, before August 30th the admin console settings will have to be disabled.

This function is deactivated by default for users, unless it is disabled by the admin explicitly. A popup with the option to allow the calendar is displayed in Google Calendar to start 30 August. In Settings, the function can also be activated.

Users can show which days of the week they expect to be in the office, from home, or from other locations, if this functionality is enabled. This will contribute to improved preparation of individual meetings, particularly in a mixed working environment. 

Google adds that all Google Workspace Business Standards, Business Plus, Enterprise Standards, Enterprise Plus, Education Plus and Nonsense, along with G Suite Business subscribers, may be used for this function.

Google’s essential workspace, business launchers, business essentials, education fundamentals, clients at the front line, as well as basic G Suite customers will not be made available.
